Meet Amy Nichole Harbison, a dedicated photographer specializing in pet portraits and landscape photography. Her passion for capturing the world’s beauty takes her on adventures both outdoors and in the studio. Since birth, Amy Nichole’s fair complexion, adorned with freckles and subtle reddish tones in her brown hair, has been a defining feature.
Amy Nichole’s journey into the realm of skin health and cancer awareness began at just 8 years old when a severe sunburn left a distinctive birthmark-like pattern on her right arm and parts of her back. Concerned for her well-being, her mother took her to see a doctor, but it was dismissed as a simple sun reaction.
As she entered her teenage years, the trend of having tan skin became prominent. Despite her British, French, and Irish heritage, Amy Nichole’s fair skin didn’t tan easily. Desperate to fit in, she tried various methods, only to find her “birthmark” darkening and moles appearing. It turned out to be Dysplastic nevus syndrome, leading to regular skin checks every 3-6 months.
In June 2016, during a personal skin assessment, Amy Nichole noticed a significant change in a spot on her upper chest. Urging her concerns to her dermatologist, she underwent a biopsy that revealed Stage 1B melanoma. Prompt action saved her from progression to Stage 2.
Despite two years of being cancer-free, another scare arose. Advocating for her health, Amy Nichole insisted on frequent check-ins, which led to the discovery of another melanoma in February 2019, emphasizing the importance of self-advocacy in healthcare.
Facing these challenges head-on, Amy Nichole underwent successful surgery for cervical cancer in November 2022. However, her unique cancer markers pose a continued risk.
In May 2023, a fourth melanoma appeared within her distinctive birthmark-like design, caught at Stage 0, thanks to vigilant monitoring and proactive treatment.
Since then, Amy Nichole’s life has centered around meticulous skin care, especially in the Nevada sun. She’s passionate about educating others on skin protection, recommending top brands for sun protection and advocating for regular skin checks.
Her advice resonates with the importance of sun safety, self-advocacy in healthcare, and embracing one’s true skin tone. Amy Nichole’s journey inspires others to embrace their stories and stand resilient in the face of adversity. Because, ultimately, no one walks alone in their journey.
