KU Athletes Partner with Home Depot and Ballard Center to Give Back

Mass St. Collective, the NIL organization representing University of Kansas athletes, has teamed up with Home Depot and the Ballard Center to make a positive impact in Lawrence. This partnership allows KU athletes to contribute to the community through meaningful volunteer work.

On June 18, 2024, KU football players joined Home Depot employees at the Ballard Center to build garden planters filled with fruits, vegetables, and flowers. These planters will offer children at the Center a chance to watch their garden grow and learn about nature.

Patrick Sullivan, Mass St. Collective’s director, emphasized the importance of community involvement for student-athletes, who often face uncertain futures in professional sports. “This is real life,” Sullivan said, highlighting the value of volunteerism.

The partnership with the Ballard Center is particularly special. Kyle Roggenkamp, the Center’s executive director, noted the positive impact of athletes spending time with the kids, helping them feel part of a larger community.

Devin Neal, a KU football player and Lawrence native, expressed his commitment to giving back to his hometown. “It’s really important for me to be able to give back,” Neal said. “Me being able to return the favor means a lot to me.”

Home Depot also played a significant role, donating materials and volunteering time to build the garden planters. Store manager Jarrod McClafin expressed enthusiasm for future projects with the Ballard Center and Mass St. Collective.

This collaboration exemplifies how partnerships can foster community spirit and support, creating a lasting impact beyond the sports arena.
