Macy’s and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) have successfully raised more than $1 million during their July campaign to support children’s literacy. This achievement is part of Macy’s Mission Every One social purpose initiative, which included an in-store round-up and online donation campaign.
The funds raised will be used to provide books and reading resources to children in under-resourced communities across the United States. This initiative aims to close the literacy gap by ensuring that children have access to diverse books and reading materials, fostering a love of reading and learning.
Alicia Levi, President and CEO of Reading Is Fundamental, expressed her gratitude for the partnership with Macy’s. “Literacy is the very foundation of learning, and we are grateful to work with an organization that prioritizes children’s literacy,” Levi said. “Through Macy’s generous donations, Reading Is Fundamental can continue to supply meaningful reading resources to children, educators, and families.”

Macy’s long-standing partnership with RIF has resulted in a total contribution of more than $46 million toward children’s literacy over the past 18 years. This collaboration has distributed nearly 15 million books and created over 20,000 supplemental literacy resources and tools, offered free to all children at RIF.org/Literacy-Central.
Sam DiScipio, Senior Director of Corporate Communications – Giving & Volunteerism at Macy’s, highlighted the importance of this initiative. “One of the goals of Macy’s social purpose platform, Mission Every One, is to empower youth and create a brighter future with bold representation for all,” DiScipio stated. “Through our partnership with RIF, we are not only providing access to resources and books to youth from underrepresented communities but ensuring that those books serve as mirrors and windows.”
