Cherished Mom, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to maternal mental health, has announced the launch of IsMomOK.org, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing essential support and resources for pregnant and postpartum women. This new platform focuses on addressing maternal suicide and mortality, which are critical public health issues.
Maternal suicide is the second most common cause of death during the postnatal period, accounting for nearly 23% of pregnancy-related deaths. Alarmingly, 80% of these deaths are deemed preventable. IsMomOK.org aims to raise awareness about these issues and provide a safe, nurturing space for mothers to access valuable information, connect with a supportive community, and find the resources they need.
Kristina Dulaney, RN, PHM-C, Founder and Executive Director of Cherished Mom, expressed her enthusiasm about the launch: “Through my own lived experience, I have a God-given passion to share and change the landscape around these conversations. Maternal suicide has become a critical issue that deserves more attention. We recognize the urgent need for the discussion of maternal suicide and hope to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and ultimately save lives.”
The platform offers educational materials, expert advice, personal stories, and resources for families experiencing perinatal mental health crises. It is designed to be user-friendly, providing evidence-based information and fostering a supportive community.
To commemorate the launch, Cherished Mom will host a Butterfly Release Memorial event on September 20th, 2024. This event aims to honor those lost to maternal suicide and highlight the devastating impact of this issue on families. The butterfly release symbolizes transformation, hope, and the need for support in facing these challenges.
Cherished Mom invites individuals, organizations, and advocates to visit IsMomOK.org and explore the resources available. By addressing maternal suicide and mortality, the organization hopes to reduce stigma and empower women to seek the care and support they need.
