The Lupus Foundation of America is set to kick off its fall Walk to End Lupus Now® events next month, mobilizing communities across the country to raise crucial awareness and funds for lupus research and support programs. These events are designed to inspire, motivate, and connect participants as they unite in the mission to end lupus and improve the lives of those affected by the disease.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects millions globally, causing pain and inflammation throughout the body. Symptoms can range from debilitating fatigue and joint pain to severe organ damage, including kidney and heart disease. Notably, 9 out of 10 people with lupus are women, and the disease disproportionately impacts certain racial and ethnic groups, including Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and Asian/Pacific Islander populations.
Louise Vetter, President and CEO of the Lupus Foundation of America, expressed her excitement about the upcoming events: “Walk to End Lupus Now season is the season of hope for Lupus Warriors. I am incredibly excited to stand side-by-side with the community to support the strength and determination of the lupus community that I’ve heard so much about since joining the Foundation earlier this summer.”
Participants of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to join the walks, forming teams with friends and family, engaging their social networks to raise awareness, and fundraising to support lupus research, education programs, and support services. These events serve as powerful reminders that no one is alone on their journey with lupus, and everyone has the power to make a difference.
The Walk to End Lupus Now events will feature inspiring guest speakers, live entertainment, educational booths, and opportunities to connect with local companies dedicated to lupus advocacy and support. These gatherings aim to dispel misconceptions about lupus, raise essential funds, and advance the Foundation’s mission to bring an end to this often overlooked and complicated disease.
