Comic Relief US and The Second City Partner to Drive Social Change Through Entertainment

Comic Relief US, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using entertainment to combat poverty, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with The Second City, the world-renowned comedy institution. This year-long collaboration aims to harness the power of comedy to drive social change and support communities across the United States.

The partnership will kick off with two special holiday-themed comedy revues. The first, titled “Jack Frost Roasting On an Open Fire,” will take place on November 30 in Chicago, Illinois. The second, “Wreck the Halls: The Second City New York’s Guide to Surviving the Holidays,” is scheduled for December 7 in Brooklyn, New York. Both shows will feature a mix of seasonal songs, sketches, and The Second City’s signature improv comedy. Importantly, 20% of the ticket sales from these events will be donated to Comic Relief US, supporting their mission to break the cycle of poverty.

Alison Moore, CEO of Comic Relief US, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “Comedy is at the heart of what we do, and over the past decade we’ve witnessed its incredible power to break down barriers, spark change, and transform lives. The Second City gets it like no one else. I couldn’t be more proud to partner with this iconic institution as we tap into our shared belief in comedy’s ability to unite people for a greater cause and make a meaningful impact for children and families around the world.”

Ed Wells, CEO of The Second City, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the institution’s long-standing commitment to using comedy for social good. “At The Second City, we know that comedy has the power to unite, heal, and inspire. We’re proud to stand alongside Comic Relief US as they make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families across the country. The Second City was founded 65 years ago on the principles of using improvisational theater games to teach skills and change lives. We’re thrilled to continue to create smiles and lasting change for those who need it most.”

In addition to the holiday shows, the partnership will include various initiatives throughout the year designed to engage audiences and raise funds for Comic Relief US. These efforts will support over 50 organizations globally that provide essential services to children facing poverty and work towards long-term solutions for their success.

Audience members attending the holiday revues will also have the opportunity to donate directly to Comic Relief US through a special QR code available in theaters. Those who donate will receive a 20% discount code for a future Second City show, applicable for up to two tickets per purchase.

This innovative partnership between Comic Relief US and The Second City exemplifies the transformative power of entertainment. By combining their resources and expertise, these organizations aim to bring joy and laughter to audiences while addressing serious social issues. Through their collaborative efforts, they hope to inspire positive change and create a brighter future for communities in need.
