EMMITSBURG, Md. — Mount St. Mary’s University students, faculty and staff joined local residents Sept. 10 for the Emmitsburg Neighborhood Meal, preparing and serving more than 160 meals during an evening focused on fellowship and service.
More than 60 volunteers from the university—including members of the lacrosse team and students from all academic years—worked together to provide food and conversation for community members. The event, held in partnership with the town, is part of the Mount’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties through volunteerism and outreach.
“This event demonstrates how service and hospitality strengthen the bonds between the university and the town,” Emmitsburg Mayor Frank Davis said.
The Neighborhood Meal is coordinated by the university’s Center for Service, which promotes community engagement through leadership programs, weekly service activities, immersion trips and experiential classes. Faculty also collaborate with local partners on research and teaching initiatives.
Mount St. Mary’s University, a private Catholic liberal arts institution near the Catoctin Mountains, offers more than 70 undergraduate programs and 20 graduate and adult education programs at its Emmitsburg and Frederick campuses.
