The The Boston Foundation has launched a new $1 million grant initiative aimed at supporting immigrant families and strengthening nonprofit organizations responding to growing community needs across the Greater Boston region.
The initiative, titled Supporting Our Immigrant Neighbors, will distribute emergency funding to 10 immigrant-serving nonprofits providing legal assistance, housing stabilization, food access, mental health support, and community advocacy services. The grants are intended to help organizations facing increased demand while navigating uncertain funding environments and rising pressures on vulnerable populations.
According to the foundation, the funding prioritizes flexible operating support, allowing organizations to respond quickly to urgent community challenges while continuing long-term programs designed to help immigrant families establish stability and opportunity.
“The organizations receiving these grants are trusted anchors in their communities,” the foundation stated in its announcement. “Their work helps immigrant families access critical services, build connections, and navigate systems that are often difficult to access alone.”
The initiative reflects a broader movement among philanthropic organizations to strengthen local safety nets through community-led solutions. Rather than focusing solely on short-term relief, the grants aim to reinforce trusted neighborhood organizations already embedded within immigrant communities.
The Boston Foundation emphasized that the selected nonprofits represent diverse cultural communities and provide services in multiple languages, helping families overcome barriers tied to legal status, economic hardship, and social isolation.
Community advocates say support like this becomes especially important during periods of economic instability and heightened uncertainty for immigrant households.
Several recipient organizations are expected to use funding to expand legal clinics, youth programs, emergency assistance efforts, and culturally responsive mental health services.
