250 Years Later, Let’s Make America Better

A single image from a Washington, D.C. commuter train has become a powerful reminder that America’s work is far from finished. An African-American woman sits quietly while surrounded by members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front.

This is not a photograph from the 1960s.

This is today, during the year America celebrates its 250th anniversary.

Regardless of politics, every American should be able to agree on one principle: No one should be intimidated because of the color of their skin, their ethnicity, their religion, or who they are.

Hate seeks to divide. Fear seeks to silence. But neither represents the best of America.

At Heartitude, we believe the answer isn’t more hatred. The answer is to Make America Better—by choosing kindness over cruelty, compassion over indifference, and empathy over fear.

The America we celebrate is one where every person can ride a train, walk down a street, attend school, worship, work, and live without intimidation.

Each of us has a role to play:

  • Speak up when you witness hate or harassment.
  • Stand beside those who feel vulnerable or alone.
  • Reject the normalization of intimidation.
  • Lead every interaction with kindness, compassion, and empathy.

The next chapter of America won’t be written by those who spread fear.

It will be written by millions of ordinary people who choose to build stronger communities through respect, courage, and humanity.

Let’s Make America Better.

Not through intimidation.

Not through division.

But through kindness.

Through compassion.

Through empathy.

Because how we treat each other changes everything.
