A good night’s sleep can be life-changing for a child. For more than 200,000 children across the United States and Canada, that change began with something many families take for granted—a bed of their own.
Hope to Dream, a nonprofit supported through Ashley, recently announced it has surpassed 200,000 beds donated since the program began in 2010, marking a significant milestone in its mission to ensure every child has a safe and comfortable place to sleep. The organization celebrated the achievement alongside Suncoast Voices for Children in Clearwater, Florida, where its symbolic 200,000th bed donation was recognized as part of a larger effort to support children in foster and kinship care.
Since its founding, Hope to Dream has worked with Ashley retail locations, community organizations and volunteers to provide complete bed sets that include a twin mattress, bed frame, bedding and pillow. The program is funded in part through mattress purchases at participating Ashley stores, allowing customers to directly support children in need while furnishing their own homes.

“Reaching 200,000 beds donated is an incredible milestone, but what matters most is the impact behind that number,” said Ben Thorud, President of Hope to Dream. “Each bed represents a child who now has a place to rest, recharge and dream. This milestone belongs to the communities, partners and volunteers who have made it possible, and it reminds us there is still more work to do.”
The milestone celebration also delivered meaningful help locally. Earlier this month, Suncoast Voices for Children received 300 complete bed sets, providing children and relative caregivers with one of the most essential resources for creating stable home environments. The beds will benefit children already in foster care as well as those being cared for by relatives, helping families meet licensing requirements that can allow children to remain connected to loved ones rather than entering traditional foster care.
“This partnership with Hope to Dream will have a lasting impact on the children and families we serve,” said Amber Slusser, Executive Director of Suncoast Voices for Children. “Something as simple as a bed can provide comfort, stability, and a sense of belonging during an incredibly difficult time in a child’s life.”
Beyond Florida, Hope to Dream continues expanding its reach through partnerships across North America. Recent initiatives include providing beds to families through Harvest Family Life Ministries in Texas and collaborating with schools, nonprofits and local organizations to identify children with the greatest need.
While the milestone represents an impressive number, its true significance lies in the lives behind it. Research consistently shows that adequate sleep contributes to healthier physical development, stronger emotional well-being and improved academic performance. For children facing housing insecurity, poverty or family disruption, having a bed of their own can provide a sense of safety, dignity and stability that extends far beyond bedtime.
The achievement also reflects years of collaboration among volunteers, nonprofit partners, Ashley employees and customers who have transformed individual acts of generosity into lasting community impact. What began as a simple idea—that every child deserves a good night’s sleep—has grown into one of North America’s largest bed donation initiatives for children.
“This milestone reminds us that compassion is often expressed through practical action,” said Bruce Petillo, founder of Heartitude. “A bed may seem ordinary to many of us, but for a child without one, it can represent security, hope and the belief that someone cares. When communities come together to meet fundamental human needs, they help create brighter futures one child at a time.”
As Hope to Dream looks beyond 200,000 beds, its mission remains unchanged: ensuring that more children wake up rested, encouraged and ready to learn, grow and pursue their dreams.
