Their path led them to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in May 2021, where they were met with a sense of hope that permeated the environment. The team of caregivers and friendly faces at the hospital cafeteria provided comfort and support during their stay. St. Jude became synonymous with hope for DJ’s family as he underwent various treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy, physical therapy, and radiation therapy.
In 2023, they celebrated what they thought was DJ’s victory over cancer with a trip to a wolf sanctuary. However, their joy was short-lived as they received the devastating news of DJ’s relapse upon their return. Despite this setback, DJ’s family remains resilient, finding purpose in celebrating life’s milestones and ordinary moments.
As DJ progresses through his senior year of high school, his family rejoices in each achievement, including his recent prom where he looked dashing in a blue tuxedo. With high school graduation and college on the horizon, DJ’s future shines brightly. This Mother’s Day, his mother considers this journey alongside him to be the most meaningful gift, made possible by the unwavering support of St. Jude and its donors. She feels blessed to have been granted these precious years and special moments with her son.
