Western Springs mom sends chemo care bags to cancer patients

A Western Springs woman wants to help cancer patients cope with chemotherapy.Jessica Brubaker, who went through chemotherapy herself, has started the #bettereveryday movement. She and other like-minded volunteers fill tote bags with products that are useful to people going through cancer treatment.

They include a head scarf or hat; Biotene, a non-alcoholic mouthwash that eases the discomfort of mouth sores; and O’Keeffe’s Working Hands cream. It’s a lotion Brubaker found effective for the dry skin, known as chemo rash, that develops as a result of chemotherapy.

Brubaker, who has a 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old twin girls, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April. Her husband, Reed, looked at it positively when she was about to start treatment.
