‘It Was A Real Shock To Get It:’ How Broadway Star Krysta Rodriguez, 38, Kept Working Through Breast Cancer Treatment

Cancer Survivor Krysta Rodriguez, 38, is set to host a benefit concert to raise awareness for nonprofit ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis.

When Krysta Rodriguez was first diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 30, she continued working despite having to undergo treatment. Now, the 38-year-old actress and singer embodies resilience and strength amid her return to Broadway.

The Orange County, California native — a new addition to Broadway’s “Into the Woods” revival starring as Cinderella — is set to host a benefit concert on September 12 in New York City to raise awareness for ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis. The nonprofit offers personalized one-on-one emotional support to those facing breast cancer diagnoses.

Krysta recounted to the New York Daily News how she felt young when she was diagnosed, noting she had no family history of breast cancer and no genetic mutation. “It was a real shock to get it, and at the time I felt like I was alone,” she said. “I really think the exact words out of my mouth were ‘I must be the only 30-year-old that’s ever had breast cancer.’”
