Sun Life U.S. and The Kansas City Royals Foundation Team Up for Seventh Year of #StrikeoutDiabetes

Sun Life U.S. and The Kansas City Royals Foundation have once again joined forces for the seventh annual #StrikeoutDiabetes campaign. This year, the initiative has raised $50,000, which will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. The funds will support local community organizations in their efforts to help people manage their health and prevent type 2 diabetes.

A Continued Commitment to Community Health

Since its inception, #StrikeoutDiabetes has been dedicated to raising awareness and funds to combat diabetes. This year’s campaign saw strong performances from Royals pitchers Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, and Cole Ragans, whose efforts on the mound contributed significantly to the fundraising total. The $50,000 donation was presented during a game against the Detroit Tigers, highlighting the community’s support for this important cause.

Impact on the Boys & Girls Clubs

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City will use the donation to enhance their health and fitness programs, which aim to educate and inspire children to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. Jason Roth, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, expressed his gratitude: “We work hard to help our kids understand the importance of health and fitness and embrace healthy lifestyle habits. Support from partners like Sun Life and the Royals make this possible. It’s also great for these kids to see support from their local team, and know they matter in the community.”

A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values

Sun Life U.S. has been a partner of the Royals since 2017, and their collaboration has consistently focused on supporting community health initiatives. Joi Tillman, president of Group Benefits at Sun Life U.S., emphasized the importance of this partnership: “The Royals have been a great partner in supporting community programs that help people get the care they need. We have many colleagues working and living in Greater Kansas City, and we appreciate seeing the programs and services the Boys & Girls Club provides. We look forward to continuing to work with the Royals and helping the people of Kansas City live healthier lives.”

Looking Ahead

As #StrikeoutDiabetes continues to grow, it has raised over $230,000 for non-profit organizations in Kansas City. The ongoing support from Sun Life U.S. and The Kansas City Royals Foundation underscores their commitment to making a positive impact on community health. Amy Gale, senior director of Community Impact and executive director of The Kansas City Royals Foundation, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “We appreciate partners like Sun Life, who enthusiastically support programs that bring the Kansas City community together. #StrikeoutDiabetes is a great way for us to engage our fans and show them our commitment to helping the youth of our city learn healthy habits that will stay with them into adulthood.”
