US Foods Holding Corp. has significantly increased its community investment, expanding its “Helping Communities Make It” program to over $4 million in 2025—more than five times its commitment from two years prior. This enhanced funding supports initiatives in hunger relief, culinary education, and disaster response.
“We are proud to support the continued expansion of our ‘Helping Communities Make It’ programming aimed at harnessing the power of food to empower communities in need with nourishment and opportunity,” said Dave Flitman, CEO of US Foods.
Hunger Relief Initiatives
US Foods has partnered with Rethink Food to introduce an innovative meal program in Chicago, the company’s headquarters. Rethink Food collaborates with local restaurants to repurpose surplus ingredients into meals for food-insecure communities. Since its inception in 2017, Rethink Food has distributed over 30 million meals and converted more than 2.7 million pounds of excess food.

The company is also expanding its collaboration with the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) to support military families facing food insecurity. Enhanced funding will bolster MFAN’s PCS Pantry Restock Box and Fresh Funds programs, aiming to assist over 2,600 military families in Texas, including those at Fort Cavazos and Fort Bliss.
Additionally, US Foods continues its partnership with Feeding America by supporting the MealConnect program, a mobile application that connects surplus food donations with local non-profits. Since 2015, MealConnect has facilitated the rescue of over 7 billion pounds of food.
Culinary Education Support
In 2024, US Foods awarded $360,000 in scholarships through its US Foods Scholars program, which was expanded nationwide for the first time. The scholarships support students pursuing degrees in culinary arts, baking and pastry, chef training, and business management. Since its launch, the program has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to over 100 students.
Disaster Relief Efforts
US Foods has strengthened its disaster relief initiatives by becoming a formal Annual Disaster Responder Program partner with the American Red Cross, contributing $250,000 to support rapid mobilization of resources before disasters strike. In response to the unprecedented magnitude of disasters in 2024, the company made an additional donation of $50,000 for Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton recovery efforts.
US Foods teams across affected areas, including Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, provided aid by sending thousands of cases of products to disaster relief organizations, supporting the National Guard, and offering emergency logistics support.
Continued Commitment
With these expanded efforts, US Foods reaffirms its dedication to addressing critical community needs through strategic partnerships and innovative programs. The company’s increased investment reflects a sustained commitment to leveraging its resources and expertise to make a meaningful impact across the nation.
