Chartwells K12 Honors 18,000 School Lunch Heroes Nationwide

Chartwells K12 celebrated National School Lunch Hero Day on Friday, May 2, recognizing the dedication of its more than 18,000 food service professionals across the country. These individuals, including chefs, dietitians, and cafeteria staff, play a vital role in ensuring students receive nutritious meals daily.

“Every day, our School Lunch Heroes exceed expectations, making a positive difference in the lives of students, families, and communities,” said Amy Shaffer, CEO of Chartwells K12. “It’s inspiring how many of our associates grew up attending the schools we serve and now dedicate their careers to creating happier and healthier cafeterias.”

To commemorate the occasion, Chartwells K12 distributed special edition t-shirts to its associates and organized local celebrations in schools nationwide. These events aimed to honor the commitment of school nutrition professionals who serve over 2 million meals daily and contribute to the well-being of their communities.

The impact of these professionals extends beyond the cafeteria. In Harrison Community Schools, Michigan, Chartwells teams have adopted local highways for cleanup efforts and volunteer at food banks. In Norwalk Public Schools, Connecticut, staff participate in weekly donation drives to support local shelters. Similarly, in Red Bank Borough Public Schools, New Jersey, the team engages in community wellness fairs to promote healthy eating.

Established in 2013 by author Jarrett J. Krosoczka, National School Lunch Hero Day is observed annually on the first Friday of May. The day serves to acknowledge the essential contributions of school nutrition professionals in fostering healthy school environments.

Chartwells K12’s celebration underscores the organization’s commitment to supporting the health and happiness of students through dedicated food service.
