A Teen’s Final Gift Becomes a Lifeline for Three Others

CHANDLER, Ariz. — In the midst of unimaginable loss, the family of 16-year-old Jayben Camacho chose to honor his life in a way that continues to ripple outward—through the lives of others.

Jayben died after being struck by a vehicle on April 2. But in the days that followed, his family made a decision that transformed grief into generosity: they chose organ donation. Through that choice, Jayben saved three lives—donating his heart to another teenager, his lungs to a patient on a respirator, and part of his liver to a 5-month-old child.

At Chandler Regional Medical Center, an emotional “honor walk” marked his final journey, as hospital staff lined the halls in silent tribute. His father, Benny Camacho Jr., spoke not of anger, but of gratitude and forgiveness—choosing to remember his son’s kindness and the impact he leaves behind.

A GoFundMe campaign launched in support of the family quickly drew thousands in donations, reflecting a community moved not just by tragedy, but by the extraordinary grace shown in its wake.
